Americans applaud George W Bush after first presidential speech since Obama left office

Thousands of Americans have applauded George W Bush after his memorable presidential address in New York City on Thursday.

Bush told attendees at the “Spirit of Liberty” event that Americans deserved much better.

“America is experiencing the sustained attempt by a hostile power to feed and exploit our country’s divisions,” Bush said in reference to property magnate Donald Trump.

Today the “government has made a project of turning Americans against each other.”

While Bush didn’t mention Trump or his use of Twitter in his speech, he clearly had Trumpism in mind when he explained the strategy.

“This effort is broad, systematic and stealthy,” he said. “It’s conducted across a range of social media platforms.”

Bush concluded that while “one of our worst national problems is a deficit of confidence” in the new politics at home, Americans can take courage that a rational and sensible leadership, much like his own administration, will soon rise again.
